Public gallery in legacy smugmug pictures can't be shared.

I have a legacy smugmug site/migrated but not unveiled. I have public galleries:

Set to be a public gallery, with external links enabled, not protected, original file download allowed (I.e. I've set full access available to everyone). But, when not logged in, I can't link to a shared picture.

I get an error "Sorry, that image doesn't seem to be shareable"

What's going on?

From what I can tell, the issue has to do with the fact that this image has been collected from a passworded gallery. Collected images will honor the settings from the original gallery, though your original gallery for this image is also allowing external linking and easy sharing, so in theory it *should* be shareable. I don't think what you are seeing is the intended behavior for collected images from passworded galleries, so I will pass this along as a bug report, and we'll take a closer look. Our apologies for the trouble, but we appreciate you bringing this to our attention!

Thanks -- Now I understand the behavior and can deal with it, and I do see that a picture that is original to the gallery is shareable.

Very useful feature is broken. Most of my public galleries are subsets of my password-protected galleries. Now nobody can share from my public galleries except for me (but only if I logged in).
