Canon Lens Question (70-300mm)

Hi - I am thinking about purchasing the
Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM IS lens.
Any comments ?
How about using this lens for sports pictures?

    Hi Jerry,

    I bought this lens with my 20D back in January. I returned it and bought the 100 - 400 L lens. The 70 - 300 seemed soft to me and a little awkward and slow in use. From what I can tell you might be better off with a Sigma at that price point. I have no direct experience with Sigma but have seem some work done with Sigma lenes and the results are quite good.
