newbie bird shots

Being a relative newbie to the SLR world, and a novice at birds in particular, I wandered out to a local nature preserve with my camera to see what I could find. Not much, I'll tell ya. But here are a couple of shots I did manage to get. Since I'm new to this, any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Red Tail Hawk, I think. Well fed, from the looks of it.

Woodpecker. I wonder how long it took him to make that hole.

Those were pretty much the highlights of my hike. I was hoping to see an eagle. However, I guess they keep them all to themselves in here. :bluduh

I ran into another photographer who told me that eagles start showing later in the winter. I'll be back.

Thanks for looking!

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Thank you, Harry. You guys have the bar raised so high here that I was nervous to post them. Thanks for the encouragement.

    Nice shots!
Hi. I am also new to SLR. :-) Aren't birds the best models ever? I love your shot of the Downy Woodpecker especially. Look forward to seeing more.

That woodpecker is a real beauty!
I'd sort of assumed you must've been using SLRs for years and years...

Oh whew! I'm -not- losing my mind.
When I saw the first post, I thought it had to be some kind of joke. That'll teach me to look at the date....

That new Osprey pic is most excellent :)

This might be interesting. We can start bumping the first threads of our shooters and see how much they have improved.

Not a bad idea...but I can only go back 500 posts...so I can't get to the real crummy stuff!

What you do is go to the last page of this forum and then move up in time to the join date of the member and then just page through until you find the first thread they started.

The repost of a RT hawk is a definite improvement. I like the angle of view on the 'pecker. Nice Joel. It's a shame that eagle spot is closed to the public. Guess that's why Lowes sells bolt cutters. :-)
