Yeah, they are picked up automatically, but they are also picked up incorrectly (i.e., "...Client/Your-Real-Estate-Photos" instead of "...Client/Realestate").

Whatever the cause, I can't create a new gallery because the "Save" button takes me nowhere.
That's very weird. I don't understand what would cause that.

WhY?? In light of this quote from Thonsu that you evidently didn't see (and so many other insightful posts here that describe perfectly all the issues with the two VERY DIFFERENT gallery creation boxes), I can't figure out why you (or anyone) would be so dead-set against simply proposing that they just place the same exact kind of Gallery Creation boxes in 2 (or more) different spots. The quote was, "I encountered this thread earlier this week because I tried to create a new gallery and couldn't find a spot to type in the "nice name". I had to head over here to Dgrin, run a search, and seek out my solution. Little did I know that there were two completely different ways to create galleries. Had it not been previously discussed here, it would have taken me way longer to figure it out, if I did at all. If "pointless and time-consuming design" isn't considered a bug, it should be. The fact that a member of SM staff described this as a feature is... well... I can't think of an adequate, negative adjective for that right now."

And that, btw, is only one of 5 or more posts we've already seen (before or concurrent with) this thread with similar questions about Gallery Creation. What/how/where/why questions. As I keep saying, what are the 2 most crucial things we do on this site? Yes. Upload & Create Gallery. There are no tools more critical. If anything at all is smooth or bug-free, it should absolutely be those 2 tools. And by bug-free, I mean painless, quality, simple, clear, one-step, and UI-tested by we the users who use these daily & often hourly. If they are not painless, they should be changed, fixed, replaced, whatever. Look how happy we would all (gurus included) be if we never had or saw another confused-user question about those 2 tools. Seriously. We keep talking, but I really still don't think you're getting it. There are already enough freakin' Uploading weirdnesses... we could really do w/o the Create Gallery ones.

We want an easy gallery creator, period. There are many people who DON'T care about all of the extra options and just want to quickly upload. So yes, this will not be changing anytime soon, but I think making it a "Quick Uploader" is a good idea. Since we won't be changing the uploader itself, I think looking into renaming it is a good idea

And there is no uploading weirdness Anna Lisa. I am sorry, but we can't keep having discussions about a product you haven't tried.

I am letting it be known I am pulling out of commenting on this thread. It takes alot of time to come back and read and comment, and since I have already submitted all this, it won't change the status of it. I will keep you posted in the future when there is any kind of change, but until then, this is the way the upload works. Please just click on Organize--->Create--->Gallery if you wish to have the additional options.

    Thanks!

Even if you want an easy gallery creator, please please please get the URL option put into it! How can you think anyone creating a gallery while uploading wants to be forced to go back & find their gallery again right away just to change the freaking URL? It's just ridiculous, & designers or engineers working on this shouldn't even be there if they can't see that. I mean, honestly... Even if you're deciding to skip people over a bunch of options-- there is no reason they don't want to set their URL right then & there. And as I've observed numerous times, if the .01% of people using that tool wanna skip that step, we all know they can skip it!

As to the uploading weirdness, I don't know why you say I wouldn't know if I'm not using NewSmug yet. I thought the Uploaders were the same for both (since they were just refined & HTML5 added recently). Anyway, I'm referring to multiple threads about frustrating stuff happening while uploading... as recently as today: http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=240623 Doesn't matter which Smug you're on. There's also the problem (ever since the new uploaders were introduced) where it starts the uploading process before you're able to set options (like "ignore dupes" or not). That creates problems for many people & has been frequently complained about. Thirdly, the various Uploader methods are not labelled in the UI that greets you upon hitting "Upload", so you have no way to know which one you're using. Uploading... most important thing we do.
