Windows Live Photo Gallery People Tags

I created a trial account using the New Smugmug in order to see if the Smart Gallery functionality behaved the same way it does in legacy Smugmug.
FWIW, I use Windows Live Photo Gallery to add "People Tags" to my photos. From what I understand, "People Tags" are stored in xmp, or Extensible Metadata Platform, which is supposedly supported by Smugmug.
In legacy Smugmug, I can upload my photos and Smugmug recognizes the "People Tags" as keywords. From there, I use the keywords to make Smart Galleries. Really, a great concept.
In my New Smugmug trial account, the "People Tags" are not recognized. As I mentioned before, I can upload the same photos to my legacy Smugmug account using "People Tags" and they will work.
As a test, from within Windows Live Photo Gallery I created a "Descriptive Tag" for the person(s) in the photos, and then uploaded them. The keywords appeared.
There probably aren't many Windows Live Photo Gallery users out there, but does anyone have similar results or suggestions? Could this be a bug?
