Drifted Up On a Great-Blue Heron
My wife and daughter, who's 5yo, and I went canoeing recently. I packed along my EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS just in case I saw something. For the most part it was just a pleasant paddle around a smallish lake. We eventually found a little back bay. As we approached the back end I spotted this bird wading among the cattails. I quickly swapped out lenses as I realized the slight breeze was going to push us along a parallel course. For the first time EVER my daughter held still for a long time as we slowly drifted along side this hunter. We watched it eat a few small fish as I captured frame after frame. They were so small that you couldn't really SEE anything in the photos.
This one is my favorite.
