Problem deleting captions

Hi everyone,

My new Smugmug is almost done (woohoo) but I still have some minor issues.
I didn't find my answers on the forum so I beg your help.

I don't want any captions on my pictures. I used to but now I would like something very clean.
So I went on the "organize site", then I selected the gallery on which I wanted to get rid of the few captions that was still there, I selected "captions and keywords" on the gallery tools, I removed all the captions, saved and hit done.
But... When I go on my website, the captions are still there. I also doubled-check on Lightroom which I use to upload my pictures and made sure no captions were included in the photos as well. Nothing changed. Frustrating...

Someone could please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks for your help!

Have you double checked to see if they still show up when you're logged out? Sometimes we see stuff when we're logged in that is not visible to our visitors.

    Thanks for your help Colleen.

Unfortunately, yes: it still shows up when I log off... I also checked with a Chrome incognito window, same thing.
    It's getting really annoying... :'(

Then I'm wondering if maybe they are actually titles and not captions. The only way to edit titles is to open the image in either Organize or the lightbox and then click the wrench at the bottom right and choose Edit -then- Photo Details. Check that and see if there is any title or caption there on the photos you're having trouble with.

WOOOW, that was the problem! It works now! (even if I have to edit the pictures one by one)

Thanks a lot Colleen, you really took a weight off from shoulders :)

    Cheers!

I'm using the SmugMug default design in the New SmugMug. My photos have title, caption, and keywords. The discussion above does not solve the problem: whether I'm online or not, titles and captions pop up over the photos when the mouse hovers over them. Very annoying. I checked the gallery settings in Organize, I did not find anything to avoid these popups. Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks in advance.

If they are popping up in little yellow text boxes, that is a function of your browser and as long as your photos have captions, I think you'll always see that. Your browser is reading the alt tag of the photo. I don't believe there would be anything that SmugMug could do to prevent that. I see that happening on my site as well, but I never found it annoying. Roll your mouse over the word REPLY under any of these posts, do you see the same effect?

I think some of this allows those who are blind or partially blind to have their browsers read stuff to them. I don't know much about it, but I like it & find it helpful not to need to click on every photo to see the title or caption, especially when I'm trying to find something specific. I'm confused though with all the current discussions going on about alt tags, tooltips, hover-overs, etc. As long as none of them show up twice, or as long as my filenames aren't showing, I like the hover-overs.

Interesting. Thank you for your answers. The popup boxes are not really small yellow boxes, but fairly large white, rectangular. The curious thing is that if press the Alt key while hovering over a picture, the popup box flashes a millisecond (barely visible), and does not reappear. However, you must keep pressing the Alt key for all subsequent "hoverings." I also found out that this does not work in Internet Explorer. I'm using Firefox.

    Thanks again, everyone!

I just saw this in the Bug Reporting Forum: http://dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=1911929&postcount=17 Evidently you use any key in IE, and Alt in FF.

Here's something that will work better than pressing a key while moving the mouse over a picture. I found this at http://www.macosxtips.co.uk/index_files/disable-tooltips-safari-firefox.php..

Here's the author's paragraph for Firefox. (I used it in Firefox for Windows.)
If you want to disable tooltips in Firefox, start by typing about:config into the address bar. [You get a warning message. If you want to continue, click the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button.] In the list that appears, find browser.chrome.toolbar_tips. Once you have found the item, double-click on it to change it from true to false. Now when you are browsing, tooltips should be disabled. Simply double-click again to change things back.
This works only for your browser, of course :) It won't work with your visitors, unless they tweak their browser.
