Fancy up my buttons please

I really like the glassy look of some folks oval nav buttons, but I have no idea on how to achieve it using CSS and HTML. Can some one help?
I have a small nav bar below the slideshow on my home page that is just custom html code, then the rest of the site has a standard cookie cutter drop nav bar created using the SM tools...
Any help would be great.

    my own choice ;
    use the same , or at least similar , as your site-wide menu ( only top , no drop-down ? )
    it looks great

    2
    your menu overlaps the gallery description , which is bothering IMO

    Please explain both comments for fully as I am confused. Sorry... maybe just too early in the morning...

    try it now if you would... I had a negative top margin and it may have been goofing it up on some browsers. It works fine on my PC

    Please explain ...

    i would use the same button style as is used in the rest of the site , it makes the site more uniform
    i also would place it on top instead of bottom of page
    or, even better , use the same menu site-wide , there is no use of a separate menu for home-page

    2 = about your normal site-wide menu
    when viewing a gallery , the drop-downs overlap / block the description
    not a big deal , but i would move the description out of the way

    hope you understand

    I have been thinking about #1, but I would like the 1st link on the homepage to be "welcome page" and 1st link everywhere else to be Home... can't figure out how to do both... yet....
    Have thought about doing the custom nav at top of homepage using just the top levels of the drop nav that appears elsewhere.

    OK... moved homepage nav to top... and made it "mostly" like rest of site.
    No drops and 1st link is different...
