I am sure there is some processing technique that can bring out more details....maybe that was not the intention and I respect that....I would have tried to bring them out. I like many other shots from rest of the b+w gallery!
Thanks for commenting, Stumblebum. You're right that I didn't want more detail (I can think of some ways to get it). This kind of image isn't everyone's cup of tea. Thanks as well for the kind words about my gallery.
I find this to be a fascinating image, because being from the Pacific Northwest......rightly or wrongly, the juxtaposition of the fog and cactus strikes me as more than a little incongruous. Around these parts, our fog goes hand-in-hand with moss. But a cactus appearing like a ghost through the murk? Nice work.
Don- I am loving this image. Such a cool scenario to have captured. My only critique is that I think it would have been much stronger if the cactus was a little larger in frame and went closer to top of frame (so shooting from a lower perspective). I think there is just a bit too much sky in this shot. I fully understand that changing perspective is often difficult or even impossible in the desert due to ravines and other vegetation. Very, very cool scene though!

I didn't imply that it should be super crisp in details......we all like it soft as is....but how soft....for my taste, some more details...not much more...some more would be nice! JMO.
pteranodon, aaron, ian, stumblebum, thanks for commenting. Aaron, when the sun rose, I wasn't expecting it, and I hustled to find ANY composition to take advantage of what I was seeing. I didn't have a lot to work with. Stumblebum, you may well be right.
