Lr Library & SM Plugin Syncing Error

The SmugMug->Lr plugin has totally jacked up my library. I have these general symptoms, and took these courses of action:
* I recently upgraded from Lr 3 to 5.2.
* I have the latest SmugMug plugin installed (2.0.3.5)
* Lr kept reporting photos that had been previously published, and which have not been modified at all, as "modified" and selected them to be republished. This was happening to hundreds of photos, seemingly at random. I can't figure out why some were selected and others were not.
* I marked a big chunk of these "Mark as Up-To-Date" to try and get something published quickly. I'm wondering if that may have seriously messed things up.
* I optimized the catalog to ensure no obvious issues with the catalog were found. Everything runs clean.
* Concerned my library is seriously out of sync with what is actually published, I am trying to sync the library with SmugMug. I am stuck here.
* When I attempt to run a sync, I get the attached error. Any ideas?

I am sending this thread to our Lightroom Dev, and he should be able to help you out. Sorry for the inconvenience!

    Hi Ryan,

A new version of the plugin was released today, so you should be able to update from File > Plug-in Manager.

Without seeing your logs, I don't know if this version will resolve the issue (but I'd still recommend the update).

Lightroom will occasionally decide that files need to be republished (without an obvious reason) ... that doesn't appear to be unique to the SmugMug publish service (I've certainly seen it happen for disk based publish services too). Using "Mark as Up-To-Date" should be perfectly safe.

Syncing your photos won't have any affect on LR's decision that they need to be re-published - that's based on LR detecting a change after they have been published. The sync simply links the images it finds online with a master image in your LR catalog (for a newly linked image I believe it will consider it up-to-date).

If the new plugin does not resolve the error, please do the following:

    1. Enable debug logging for the plugin in File > Plug-in Manager
    2. Quit and restart LR.
    3. Repeat the sync operation - I would generally run sync hierarchy and then sync photos separately when debugging a problem (just to make it easy to know which step caused the error).
    4. Send us the "SmugMug LrPublish.log" from your Documents folder.

I've opened a support ticket for you - that's generally the best way to get support for technical issues such as the LR plugin.

    G'day Ryan,

This error occurs if you try to "sync images" for a gallery that has some images marked to be deleted, as the plugin attempts to re-add those images to the gallery. I'm going to do some digging to see if I'm able to determine if the SDK gives me access to image without a publish collection in that state. The main problem is that Adobe don't give us any way to reverse the marked for deletion flag.

Until I am able work that out, you have two options to resolve this...

    - if those images are correctly marked to be deleted, publish the gallery so that they can be removed.
    - if those images are INCORRECTLY marked to be deleted, delete the gallery from LR and select "Leave on SmugMug", resync the local hierarchy to recreate the gallery and then resync the images.

    Hope that helps.

    Cheers,
