Proprietary mounts

Was thinking the other day. I have no problem attaching my Arcam CD player to my NAD preamp to my Linn amplifiers using Nordost cables. The audio industry, to the best of my knowledge, has always been interoperable. The camera industry is not. If you have an "X" body you need an "X" lens. I'm wondering why the photographic community has accepted this for so long?

Its the one nice thing about the proposed 4/3rd's standard.

because they're dumba**es. actually, because it keeps the competition. if every manufacturer combined mounts, they would lose money on their profits.
