If I'm logged in I see a different selection of keywords than my visitors see. And they see silly things, like partial file numbers and letters. Things that I don't really want them to have to deal with.
Do we have control over the keywords that are displayed? And the number of keywords? Where and how do we access this?
Thanks,

    Thanks,
So your visitors are seeing partial file numbers & letters, but you aren't seeing those same things when logged in? If so, that seems very odd and backwards to me. I mean, if anything, your visitors, who are not logged in, should be unable to see keywords for any photos that are in unlisted or private galleries, etc. But I don't know of any reason visitors would see more keywords than you do. Definitely if they see more, something is wrong.

There are lots of ways to control what keywords are displayed, but you'll probably need to be more specific about what you need or want. Also, are you on Legacy or New SmugMug? Do you have all of your galleries public, or are some set to Private or Unlisted or whatever? The number of keywords that display in several settings are limited by various things, depending what you're talking about. There are keywords that display under photos (or not), and keyword pages, and keyword search results. All of these have different limits. On New SmugMug, there still is not a /keyword page that displays ALL of your keywords, like there is on Legacy.

When you say you see a different selection of keywords than your visitors see, are you asking about keywords in password-protected galleries? If you are, that's the reason for the difference. From the help page at http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93291:
Gotchas: Only you, as the account owner, will be able to search for any keywords from unlisted or password-protected galleries. We only index the first 30 keywords for each photo. Keywords can take up to 24 hours to populate

As far as partial file numbers and letters, it sounds like you have the keyword from file name feature turned on. I'd recommend you turn that off unless you rename your files to have meaningful names before you upload the photos. You'll find the setting on the Search tab within Discovery on your account settings.

There is a thread (Allen) where you can create your own keyword page and show ALL your keywords or just the ones you want shown. I have numerous "junk" keywords from when you could not turn off filenames. With this method, you just get rid of them for this page. It is kinda cumbersome to do and there are some gotchas as you figure it out. And then you have to go back in and add any NEW keywords you create if you can remember them. I, and others, are using it as a stop-gap until SmugMug re-writes the keyword page code - waiting and hoping. This method also gets rid of the constraint on how many images show up when you click on the keyword. Search for "keyword" here and you will stumble on Allen's thread and method.

I have been creating passworded "smart" galleries for all my family names using keywords.

I started by copying the "logged in" legacy keyword page, it also shows every keyword from passworded
and unlisted galleries. Used Excel to add the to each. Put this in an html box.

I then converted that to passworded "smart" gallery links which will draw from password galleries.
