Folder? Gallery?

I've had a site for several years, but have not gone through
the steps to convert it to the new format.

Where are instructions for this?

All I want to do is use my existing galleries and put them
in the new format. Basic stuff, and as close to the
legacy version as possible.

This might help - http://school.smugmug.com/SmugMug-Tips/Get-the-Legacy-Look. There are other tips on that site as well.

You'll need to start by kicking off the migration process: <your smug url>/migration.

I'm not doing so well. When I go to http://tonycooper.smugmug.com/migration it just takes me to my
    page. Nothing about migration.

What do I do to start migration?

Sorry, my bad, it appears it needs to be www.smugmug.com/migration?

Take a look at this page - http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/1212681-making-the-move-from-legacy-to-new-smugmug.

    I'm going in circles, here.

All that does is take me to my own home page.

Where do I go, or what do I do, to start migration?

There should be a button to click on that page. The migration is then scheduled and you will get an email when it is done. Once you get the email you will be able to access both your legacy site and a preview of the new smug.

If that isn't the response you got you may need to contact the help desk. Given that you are having problems migrating I'm going to move this thread to the support forum.

This is from the page at http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/1212681-making-the-move-from-legacy-to-new-smugmug:
So, to get started you'll need to log in and visit http://www.smugmug.com/migration. We'll ask you to confirm the migration and we'll send you an email as soon as your photos and videos are copied over.
You wouldn't see the option to migrate if you had already migrated. When you log in, what does your page look like? If you see something like the image below (but with an unveil button) the migration is complete and you need to go through the steps of selecting the look for your site.

Can you paste a screen shot of what you see when you go to www.smugmug.com/migration (when logged in)?

I have that Unveil button, but - to the best of my knowledge - I
never went through the migration thing. I was going to, but there
was a hold on migration at the time. I haven't bothered with
    SmugMug since.

    Here's the screen shot:

Do I click that Unveil thing now?

On the contrary - do it and get it over with. You will have to do it eventually anyway and it really is very easy to do, despite the hysteria. There is plenty of help available here if you have any questions but looking at your legacy site I can't see why you should have any problems. You have already migrated so see if there are any changes you want to make and then unveil. Simple :D

I agree with LPC - look at your site to make sure it looks OK (and I suspect it does), then unveil.

Your legacy site allows visitors to choose the gallery style. That option is no longer available - you need to choose a default style for your site. I don't know what the default is, I assume it is SmugMug style. But look and set it at the style you prefer. Then unveil.

I'd prefer not to do it, but I suppose I'll have to.

I signed on with SmugMug several years ago because it was a
simple way to put up images in galleries, get links, and send
those links to other people. I didn't want to go to the bother
of designing and setting up my own website.

I don't sell images and have that option turned off. Anyone
who wants one of my images can steal it, take it, or use it.
I'd be flattered if anyone wants one.

Now, SmugMug has decided that I need a more "modern look"
and I have to delve into a procedure that is not something I'm
interested in or good at to conform with what they want.

I wish they would have had the courtesy of allowing those of
us who don't want to be bothered with changing the ability to
    to opt out.

The helpers, like Denise, are nice people and I appreciate their
help. But, SmugMug created the need for help by making
decisions about what the users need.

    I feel the same!
Like you, I was happy with the old set up, absolutely no desire to change. I e-mailed to tell smugmug this, but as has been stated, we have no option. I'm no techie, neither do I have the time or the inclination, or the knowledge, to go through all the changes. Some say it's easy, yet there are many hundreds of post all with problems caused by the switch over. Like you, I've ignored SM for sometime now, I'll probably just let it lapse and not not bother renewing when it's due.

    Folder? Gallery?
So I started the move to the new format, but somehow I've
acquired "Folders" but no "Galleries". I do have Galleries, but
they are in Folders, and all the new site wants to display is the
Folder. You have to click to open the folder to see the galleries.

I don't want that. I would like a display of all the galleries without
    them being under a Folder.

I don't even know how the Folder thing came about.

    What do I do?

When you have unveiled you will still be able to put up images in galleries, get links, and send those links to other people just like you can now. Nothing will have changed, it will just look different until you get used to it. You can opt out of Smugmug altogether by choosing another place to store images and get links to images but sooner or later it will change there too, things just move on sometimes.

If you did absolutely nothing then eventually you would be moved over so you could just wait until then and let Smugmug do it for you or you could take control of it yourself and do it sooner. Entirely your choice.

Go to any of your legacy category pages like /Family.
Does anything show on the page?
If not click customize > site
In the right flyout highlight "all folders"
Look below and click "navigation" to expand it
find "folders, galleries, pages" and drag over to just under the breadcrumb.
you'll see a narrow green box under your mouse when in an area that it will drop to
click the wrench at the top of new box.
for "select from" choose "current location"
    click "done"

You should now see everything in that "category". By adding this to "all folders" every folder page
(legacy category and sub-cat) now shows what's there.

I knew someone would come up with that "If you don't like it, you can

If you don't like me airing my discontent with being forced to spend time

Better? It's a dog's breakfast. It's not what I want, and not even close.

    Thanks Allen.

You can also just drag a gallery block onto the page and select galleries I choose. Then you'll only see the galleries within the folder.

If you are just emulating legacy you could drag both a folder and gallery box to the page. Then whatever is
applicable, that box will show with its contents and the other will hide.

I on the other hand, adivise against unveiling. You won't *have* to do it eventually, because you can leave smugmug if they force everyone to unveil. In the meantime, if your site is OK the way it is, people can still use it comfortably. If you unveil you are going to have to fix things. The site will not simply convert and be useable.

So sorry. I'm waiting to see if they fix things. If they don't, I plan to downgrade my site to the lowest cost (I have to keep it alive because of links to my blog) and leave for another site. He stated some of what he's wanting in this thread, & got some feedback from people. http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=241422 Just letting you know cuz perhaps these threads could be merged for him so all his info can be in one place, & also so you know where he was at with this at some point earlier today. I know it was helpful to me when I was first starting to figure out stuff to have most of my questions all in one thread.

Hours? Spent the last MONTH customizing mine back to a similar look I already had. However, I am liking the new look even though I have spent a lot of time tracking down "fix's" for bugs, and needed code for customization. What Allen told you above lets you show all on a page. The dang thing is that you WILL have to rummage around and figure out where things are and how to do them in the New SmugMug...I know it is QUITE maddening. I have not unveiled yet and am glad I did not do it early on when there were some serious flaws and missing services. However, SmugMug is listening to us and has fixed some bugs, added back some services. I think it will get better and better. Just wish they had not force-fed us into something that was not ready for the real world. I am very close to unveiling...a few more tweeks. I just don't want people saying "Hey, why does your website do that?" kind of stuff. I have 20,000+ images here and I am in for the long haul. Good luck - it does get better as your knowledge grows. And this from someone who was a very loud complainer!

    Thanks!

I've been so involved in other projects, that I haven't followed the posts
    here.

In answer to your question...I don't see any change you've made or any
change in the page that I haven't made.

What I'm doing now is re-building the entire site from scratch. I feel
like a slave building a pyramid by himself carrying each block up to
    the top.

I didn't realize, when I originally uploaded images, that I was using Folders.
I don't like Folders. I want individual Galleries only. So I'm creating a new
Gallery for each Gallery in a Folder, re-uploading the images for that Gallery,
and the deleting the Gallery in the Folder. Then, when empty, the Folder.

It's taking forever. I can't figure out how to Move an image from the Gallery
in the Folder to the new Gallery. When I try to Move files, they jump back
to where they were and a pop-up comes that says "Hint..." and wants me
to put them in a box I can't find. I can't find any way to move Galleries
or images and make them stick to where I move them.

It used to be that images could be easily moved from one gallery to another.
I don't know why the "Move" command has gone.

I admit to being to bone-stupid and seemingly unable to follow simple
instructions, but I opened a SmugMug account several years ago
because the old system was simple. This current thing is not what I bargained for.

So far, I've got some new Galleries that are what I want, but I've got hundreds
more images to re-upload. I am not a happy camper.

If asked, I'd recommend SmugMug to anyone IF they don't have a current
site and are starting new. If they have a SmugMug site that is Legacy, I'd
advise them to cut and run and go to Zenfolio just to protest that SmugMug
doesn't give us an opt-out because some of the pro photographers want a
    new look.

There are some helpful people in this forum who have provided some instructions
to me...but I try them and they don't work for me.

I would like all Galleries to show and no Folders to show as explained in
a post I just wrote. No Folders. Just Galleries. Folders bad. Galleries
    Good.

Since I wasn't aware that I was using Folders all these years, I can't
remember where a particular Gallery is. I have to hunt through the
    Folders.
