Good day,

I watermarked a gallery but the first half dozen or so didn't take. I've tried to un-mark them and re-mark but it doesn't seems to work. any ideas?

Thanks,

Carden

How large are the photos that were not watermarked?

From the help page at http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/93343-how-do-i-watermark-photos-:
FYI: We only watermark images that are 801px and up on the longest side. We do not watermark photos whose longest side is equal to or less than 800 pixels because a display copy and the original are the same image.

    4040 X 2696 300 dpi 24 bit...

What I can't understand is why can I not remove the watermark and then remark them as I did with Legacy?

    Thanks

Edit: It definitely will NOT remove the watermark and it won't even replace with another. I had to make the gallery private until this is resolved. It doesn't look pretty...

Carden, how did you apply the watermark? If you would like to apply a watermark to existing photos in a gallery, the change in the gallery settings will not do it as it only affects future uploads. To watermark existing photos in a gallery, you need to go to Organize > organize site, select the gallery, then click the wrench tool > watermark, select your watermark, select "add", select photos you want to watermark and click "watermark". I just did that for you and the watermark applied fine.

Thank you Ana. I simple process, simply explained. I was attempting to do it similar to the old days, through the gallery settings.

    Again, Thanks!

Carden, you're welcome. But to clarify - watermarking is the same as it was in Legacy:
    A) turn watermarking ON in gallery settings - it applies to future uploads
    B) use the watermarking tool in the organizer (under the Tools button in Legacy) - it applies to existing photos in a gallery

I was having issues where it wouldn't apply my watermark.....one of the support people finally got it resolved...by removing the watermark and re installing it.....weird.
You may want to try the same.....must be a bug in the system.

I often see Heroes (and regular SmugMug users) making a statement like the above about Legacy SmugMug... i.e. that if you "turn watermarking ON in gallery settings, it applies to future uploads". And then they'll say that the watermarking tool in the organizer applies to existing photos. However you're leaving out the toggle On/Off option that also exists in Gallery Settings. In reality, those settings look like this: Watermarking: ON or OFF. If you choose "ON", now you have a few options-- a dropdown menu shows up, allowing you to choose which watermark to add. Also, a check-box appears, and it allows you to choose: "Apply to existing photos in gallery" or not.

I'm just trying to figure out why this option is usually omitted, especially by the Heroes. In fact, Ana actually said this: "If you would like to apply a watermark to existing photos in a gallery, the change in the gallery settings will not do it as it only affects future uploads." as if that gallery check-box didn't even exist. This is very confusing to people, when they know it does exist! And I'm also wondering if this check-box appears in New SmugMug or not. Or is the info in SmugMug "Help" outdated, or is there a problem with this setting? We need to know! I know that sometimes the two settings can interfere with one another, depending upon which was set first. And I also know there are instances in which you should entirely remove all old watermarks before trying to do a different setting. But few people know those issues, or how the 2 settings interact.
