Wrong feature image

Something is wrong with the feature images on my galleries. If I don't select a static feature image, the same image appear on all galleries, not the first image in the gallery, as it should have been.
On some galleries I think it would be nice if the newest image appeared automatically on the front page, but this isn't possible in my case.
