The NYT is reporting a significant security breach at Adobe involving customer data:

I haven't received any direct communication from Adobe, have you?

    Got an email this afternoon
My opinion does not necessarily make it true. What you do with my opinion is entirely up to you.

I just received the e-mail notification moments ago. It says "We currently have no indication that there has been unauthorized activity on your account" and says they reset my password.

I only glanced at it as I've had too much on my plate recently, but did anyone sign up for the free year of credit protection? How involved of a process was it?

I (finally) got a notification to change my password today, but there was no mention of credit protection. Whenever I have the choice, I don't allow Web sites to save my credit card info. I don't remember whether Adobe provided that option. ne_nau.gif

If you subscribe to one of the "Creative Cloud" subscriptions then I believe that you "must" allow them to keep your credit card information. Otherwise, how could they bill you automatically each month? ne_nau.gif

Right--I haven't taken the CC kool aid, though I have purchased software directly from Adobe.

Now Adobe is offering free 1 year credit monitoring.
    The company is Experian.
Anyone every hear of this company?

Calling Adobe is a joke got someone with a heavy accent.
And sorry but I can't understand them.

I called Expering they want a lot of info including SS#.
I'm not sure if I want to give out anymore on my personal info.ne_nau.gif

Experian is a large financial services company now based in Ireland. They used to be TRW a while back and are big in credit reporting. They probably know all about you anyway rolleyes1.gif.

It's also very bad news that Acrobat and Reader source code was compromised. Whatever security by obscurity those apps ever had is now gone. The breach may create new vulnerabilities in PDFs, and that could affect just about everyone on the net, not just Adobe customers.

Hope experion has better ethics then equifax, when one of my previous employers had a security breach they offered us free credit checks through equifax- I signed up with a dedicated email used only for that purpose and promptly started to receive spam! Needless to say I wasn't impressed. Adobe didn't mention anything about that to me but they did have me change my password.

Got an interesting email from Eventbrite today. They claim I have an account there. Now I may have used the service, I definitely don't have an account there.

Nothing malicious in their note but it got me to thinking by writing an email like that, you could phish pretty effectively among a small group of people.
