sluggish performance

Is anyone else having this problem:

I have an new smugmug site (not yet unveiled). Pretty simple, with 8 folders + custom code to decrease the size of the folder labels (that I got from someone here at dgrin).

My test new smugmug site take 6 seconds to load.
My legacy site takes 1 second to load.

So not just my connection speed. The timing difference is reproducible.
