retractable vertical thumbnails next to larger image on portfolio page

Hi,
I've searched this forum over and over. I can't seem to find what I would like to do on here.
I am interested in changing my smugmug style view. I would like to have retractable/drop down thumbnails on the side that can scroll without moving the screen. I would also like to have bigger images.
this site www.lucindawedge.com has a nice portfolio page, but it's not smugmug and I have no idea how to replicate those effects. (I'm not interested in the color or style besides the way the thumbnails and main image work together).
