Galleries....Again....and Again!

I migrated to the new smugmug a month and a half ago. The migration was easy and smooth, following the instructions religiously.... Until I noticed a problem.

From my homepage, although my setting is to show the lightbox first, whenever I go to a gallery, the screen would show the lightbox momentarily and then to the gallery pictures...one at a time. Sometimes it would go straight to the individual picture. The lightbox will only show if I close a picture (click "X") I reported the problem to Smugmug a month ago and was advised the problem is known and they're fixing the bug. Today I was told they have no update on the bug.

I also found other problems, like if I take the gallery route from the home page, a gallery wont show the individual picture, but when I go the browser/folder route the pictures will show. Furthermore, the transition from picture to picture vary from gallery to gallery, i.e. one would instantly change pictures, another would fade in picture. Its a bit annoying.

Perhaps if someone has time to check and help... here's my home page

Thanks,
Mensky

I may have confused the lightbox from gallery.....what I wanted to see is to show the gallery of pictures first (collage) before choosing individual ones, but in my website case choosing a gallery from homepage momentarily shows the collage of pictures and automatically shifts to show individual pictures without intervention. Thanks

Can you e-mail us at help@smugmug.com with some screenshots of what you are seeing since I am having trouble seeing what you are seeing? I also see you have different gallery styles set up on various galleries so it is hard to pin down what galleries you are seeing the issues on. Please send us a link in the e-mail you send to one of the galleries that is giving you such trouble.

    The homepage is http://mensky.smugmug.com

Just click the first gallery as an example. Notice that the gallery shows momentarily and then shifts to individual pics (lightbox?) You can then choose the other galleries from homepage to see the same behavior.

If you got o browse/folder and choose the (or a) gallery from there, then it displays correctly, i.e. the gallery of pics to choose from.

BTW, I have reported this through the helpdesk and the reference number is.530681

    Thanks

You have the box set to open photos in lightbox, not to go to gallery.

I'm sorry, but I don't know what you are referring to as "open in lightbox". I checked again the Customize window for Homepage and checked the setting for the galleries multiple photos and the Action on Click is set to "go to gallery".

Can you elaborate where you found the setting to be "open in lightbox?"

    Thanks.

Just checked a couple multiple photo boxes and they have "Action On Click" set to either
"open in lightbox" or "open in gallery" in drop.

Hi, I am not really that expert with this new format. BUt can you just tell me where and how I can check each of the multiple photo boxes' action setting, so I can verify the "either" you've mentioned.

The only way I check is at the homepage and checking the blue transparent banned atop the gallery featured pics.

Are we looking at the same web pages here? Looks like I'm missing something. Thanks.

On your homepage, click Customize then choose to customize just the homepage. Then click on the wrench icon in the Multiple Photos block. You can see the wrench right under the photo of you. Once the options for the block are open, change the "Action on Click" from Gallery to Lightbox.

    Hope this helps!

Sorry, it did not fix the problem.

In short, no matter what I choose as Action...Go to gallery or open lightbox...it still opens a single photo and you have to click the > < icons to browse the gallery. What I wanted is to open up all the photos for the viewer to select the photo he wants to start...is this what you call the "lightbox" or the "gallery?"

But it seems to work fine if the access is through the folders.

    Hey mensky,

The way you have configured your homepage seems strange to me. You have put individual images on your homepage and are trying to use that to go to the gallery. The problem is that with the layout you have chosen, the URL to the image is the lightbox link.

You could instead, put a galleries block on the homepage...select the galleries you want to show up, and then set the featured image for each gallery to be the image that you are currently displaying on your homepage.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,

To beardedgit, the smartest man in the world, thanks for adding value to the discussion...it was indeed very helpful.

To David, there are only three options I see to adding content photo data block - single photo, multiple photos and slideshow, no galleries. My current homepage was set up using multiple photos from galleries, and I have issues with it. Hence, I was just curious what you meant by "put a block of galleries" instead.

    Again, thanks.

The "Galleries" content block isn't in "Add Content" > "Photo", it's in "Add Content" > "Navigation", drag it from there to your homepage thumb.gif

    david, beardedgit,
creating gallery blocks instead of multiple photo worked. Its not a bug after all as Smugmug thought it was. Thanks for pointing out the mistake I made.
