Lightbox shows incorrect size ... help!

I'm having some problems figuring out something that is going on with my site when I click on an image that is in a gallery.
My understanding is that when an image is clicked, it will show up as large as possible on the monitor (unless there are restrictions set by the user). I find this to be true, but not all of the time. See below for a gallery that shows the same images sized to six different widths (800, 1024, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1680).

My settings are such that the largest size that can be shown is the original size that was upload.
If you click on the 800 px image, it shows up at 800 px. Great.
If you click on the 1024 px image, it shows up at 1024 px. Great again!
If you click on the 1100 px image, it shows up at 1024 px. Something fishy here.
But when you click on the 1200 px image, it show up as 1024 px wide? why?! My monitor is big enough to show it larger.
When I click on the 1300 px image, it shows up 1285 px wide. Why not 1300 px, there is enough room to show this size on my monitor.
Click on the 1680 and it shows up as 1444 px. This is ok, since it's maxed out at the top and bottom, but it means that the three sizes below this should show up correctly, since there is room.
What is going on here?! Ideally, I would like to post at 1200 px wide and have my largest size set to original. When the user clicks on it, if they have a large enough monitor, it should show up as 1200 px wide, not 1000 px!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

To get it to display at 1280 pixels wide, you'll have to post it the original at least 1280 pixels wide.

For years I crafted my original size pictures to be a vertical height of 1080 so they would be as large as possible on a 1920 x 1080 monitor or HD TV.
This meant the Original Size was the best choice on my monitor and the slideshow filled the screen vertically. 1920 x 1080 pictures filled the screen.
Now all of a sudden smugmug stopped using Original Size as one of the display sizes even though it is shown as such in there advertizing.
No way will a 1920 x 1080 picture play at this size in the gallery slideshow.
This is a huge disappointment after sizing thousands of pictures for optimal viewing.
Smugmug will not own up to it and just sidesteps the issue.
It always worked before!
This is discussed here...

"The nine sizes of smugmug
Most photo sharing sites shrink your originals to save space. Not us.
With SmugMug, you get to keep every pixel forever and show them as big as your screen will allow."
