Menu Help , please

I have not yet unveiled as I am still trying to tame this beast to do what I want it to do.

On my legacy site (link in signature) I have a Nav bar item = RECENT

This links to a gallery containing a number (usually 15) images. These images are from galleries containing my most recent images. I post a link to the individual galleries in each image's caption.

I have tried to convert this set-up in the 'new' smugmug but just can't get it to work. Either the images are way too big, or the necessary captions do not show up.

Ideally, I would want the viewer to be able to click on a link (whether text or the image itself) and open up the related gallery.

Any suggestions on how to do this is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm confused ... can you just create a gallery .. and "make it smart" and automatically select your most recent 15 images. At the bottom it automatically adds a link "From ______" whatever gallery it was. Why are you not using a smart gallery to automatically collect your images?

Have you tried creating a page containing a multiple photos block with Select from set to "Recent photos"? You can control the number of photos shown on the Display tab.

But I am not trying to show recent photos, but recent photo shoots (i,e, galleries). You can see what I currently have at this link.

If I could have thumbnails with captions where the thumbnails when clicked would open a new tab/window teh related photo shoot (gallery). This is what I would like to have.

Sorry I missed that!

I have a gallery I use to link to my recent galleries. I don't know if it is the optimal solution but I think it works. I load a single photo into the gallery http://www.denisegoldberg.com/Medley/galleries-by-date/n-GzNHG to represent each new gallery (or in some cases a folder). The title of the image is the name of the gallery it represents, and the description contains code to click to the gallery. Maybe something similar would work for you.

Almost all of the links from there right now are to galleries, but the second photo has a link to a folder.

Thanks Denise. Your set-up is almost exactly what I have. (Not crazy about the super large images that force the view to scroll down).

I just found out if I play with the design template in the new SM I can get it to look the way I have it in the legacy version.

Presently my 'Recent' gallery is in a category 'OTHER', so the bread crumb reads 'Home --> Other --> Recent'. Ideally I want 'Home --> Recent'

Should I be able to create a new page, add the gallery 'Recent' and have my menu point to the new page?

You could create a page and select a photo to represent each gallery on the page. My Kaleidoscope page is essentially a page of galleries. I selected photos and specified to go to gallery on click.

The reason I chose a gallery for my "galleries by date" page is that using multiple photos there is no way to specify the display order. The photos are shown in the order in which they are selected. I filed a feature request to be able to specify the order, see ability to change order of galleries in multiple galleries page element.

I worked quite hard customizing my site a few years back. Now it seems little or none of what I did translates easily.

That page is a compromise for me too. Overall I'm quite happy with my site but there are a few things I'd like to improve. If the option was added to be able to specify the order of photos or galleries in a multi-photo block it would me a big difference for me.
