New Gallery Won't Show Images as Watermarked?

I have created a new gallery and need to send it off to people to view but I can't because the watermarks are not showing up on the images. I tried using the default and the custom watermark and also tried to change to a different viewing style and the watermarks are still not showing up on the images. Is this a bug or how long do I have to wait for the watermark to show up in the gallery?

Watermarking can take some time to be implemented. How long has it been? Can you link to the gallery in question.

    Hi

From what I can see, the watermarking was turned on in the gallery settings. That will not effect existing photos. To add, remove or change watermarks on existing photos, you will have to go into the gallery, click organize > organize site, click the wrench icon, and select watermarks. There you will be able to select all of the photos, choose the watermark you want to use, and click the watermark button. Then give it a couple of minutes, refresh your page, and your photos should be watermarked.

Please let us know if there is anything we can help you with.

Maybe you can make it easier for people that it is an option when you first upload images to a new gallery? This seems a lot more complicated than it use to be. Just saying...

Just curious... There are two different "upload" areas, and one of them has very little in the dialogue box (because they want it as a short-cut, even though it really isn't anyway because you still have to go back & do that stuff later). So if you were using that one, it may not have even had a watermarking option right at the start? But if you were using the more comprehsive uploading box & set it to watermark from when you first created the gallery, it should've added them.

Or even if you had to go back into that gallery settings box, is there no longer an "add to existing photos" checkbox? Because in Legacy Smug, there was a box right with the watermarking dialogue area. If you clicked "watermark", and which one you wanted, a box popped up that you could check to add it to photos already in the gallery.

This has NOTHING to do with watermarking. Photos on upload (regardless of how you upload them) will be watermarked IF the gallery settings have watermarking set to "on".

Simply setting the gallery settings to "on" for watermarking will not watermark existing photos on SmugMug. You must go to the organizer, and select the photos, and then apply watermarks.

Andy, I think the pertinent question here is when have the gallery settings (including Watermarking) been set in "Settings"? And in which type of box... If the watermarking option is there when uploading (& I'm not saying it was in whichever uploader this person used), people expect it to just work. And if it's not there, they won't expect it.

So... I don't know which uploader JDrake used, but if an option for watermarking upon upload was there; then that option should work. Otherwise, why is it there? Ok, but if that's not what he/she used, then that would mean he/she went into gallery settings soon after uploading and set watermarking. Again, If that option (to set later) doesn't work, then why is it there, confusing people? (i.e. How many times have we seen this question before, do ya think?) I mean, if the setting is there, either it should work on existing images, or on images that will be uploaded. Those are the only two options, right? In thinking this through, remember that many people are doing settings right at the time of gallery creation, and immediately uploading into that very gallery.

In Legacy gallery settings, the little checkbox pops up: "watermark existing photos?" when you select watermarks after uploading. Is that not there in New Smug? If it's not there, & there's only an option to watermark but then people don't see their watermarks show up, well... clearly SOMEthing needs to be explained better within the settings dialogue, because obviously it's confusing people... cuz like I said, it's gotta be one or the other! Otherwise, it does nothing.

This "Create Gallery" dialogue: http://dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=1909102&postcount=3 Does it or does it not have a watermarking option? It seems it would be there, in either "Security & Privacy" or "Appearance". Then there are the Quick Settings. Those have watermarking. So if you're choosing a Quick Setting upon upload, that would include Watermarking (if there's watermarking in one of your quick settings).... right?

I don't know... you guys can figure it out. All that is clear to me right now (because we often see the questions) is that at least one of these 3 things is true: 1. one setting or the other either doesn't behave as people expect, or 2. it shouldn't be there at all because it doesn't work, or 3. the way it works should be explained right there in the dialogue box.

As you can see from my previous post, and Andy's... I think it would help them out if you can explain in detail (even post screenshots if you can) showing why or how it's more complicated than it used to be. It helps if you show (or say) where / how you're uploading, and what kind of gallery creation / settings boxes come up when you're uploading; i.e. where you're doing settings. SmugMug has had this problem for a long time (even before the change) where the differing ways of watermarking cause confusion. If they can better understand exactly which dialogue boxes are causing people to have different expectations from the outcome, they could probably save themselves gazillions of "Help" emails & DGrin posts. I just think they haven't seen good explanations for why the dialogue boxes cause watermarking confusion. Good luck!!!

Thanks Nick, I spent a few too many minutes trying to find the watermark feature on photo's already uploaded. I found it by accident on one gallery, but for the life of me couldn't find it again (after spending time working on another part of the site) until your post. clap.gif
