Background Color

This may have been asked before so I apologize if I am repeating a question that has already been asked. I am trying to affect the background color of an html content box but I seem unable to get the html to stick. Each time I try, it ends up being removed. I understand that I have chosen a theme that may come with default colors, but I am hoping that it isn't working only because I am not entering it in how it wants it. Please help.
