I've tried searches but I get too many responses. How do you make a screen shot of say, a Photoshop screen?

Thanks

Well one way is the print screen key
    Then it's in your clipboard
Then just dump it into your program even "word" will take photos.

OK then... the PrtScr key does the trick. Then drop it in. You can usually just do a Ctl + V as a shortcut.

Another screen printing trick, if you only want the top-most dialog box to be captured, is to hold down the Alt key as you press the PrtScr key. Thos who write tutorials and include those windows dialog boxes on their web pages can save much editing time with that routine.

How I capture a screen shot

Since nobody has given you the full outline of steps, I'll tell you what I do.
    1. Position the window on screen to be the size you want to capture and position the content within that window if required.
    2. Hit Alt-PrtSc. This copies a screen shot of the current window to the Windows clipboard.
    3. Do File/New in Photoshop or File/New from Clipboard in Elements.
    4. In the File/New dialog in Photoshop, select "clipboard" as the Preset type (if it isn't already selected) and select "transparent" for the background contents. Hit OK.
    5. Hit Ctrl-V to paste the clipboard into this new document.
At this point, you now have your screen shot in a Photoshop document. You can then do anything you want with it such as crop it to remove pieces of it, etc.. Save to any format you want or JPEG if you want to post it online.

If you do a ton of these and your fingers get tired, or if you want more options like capturing the cursor or specific areas of the screen, I'd recommend HyperSnap. It doesn't cost very much but it can save a lot of time. If you need it.

    PrintKey 2000
This is a replacement/enhancement for standard issue PrtScn tool.
It's free, you can google for it, or just use this link.
I've been using it for years, awesome tool!
