I have share links on in some of my galleries but protection is enabled. I found that by clicking the link to do the sharing I can then right click on the picture and then download it ..... :huh

this is a topic that comes up a lot and most of the time it's just that you dont realize that you're actually downloading a transparent gif, not the photo itself.
just sayin.

it can be done with any photo in that way

This behavior is intended. By clicking on the link, you've opened the image in a new browser window, and have left the are of "protection" that is your website. If you don't want this to happen, turn OFF "easy sharing" and and "external links" in your customize gallery setup.
