Schloss Malberg

We had unseasonably nice weather this past weekend (well, Saturday at least). I had to get up early to take one of the kids to a church event. I dropped her off and spent almost 3 hours working my way back to my house, taking photos as I went. I arrived in my neighboring village just in time to catch some sweet light from the Malberg overlook.

I have shot from this overlook a number of times, but I've never gotten anything quite like this...

Absolutely my favorite shot of the day!

Exposure, light, processing are perfect! Subject is cool. Maybe slight zoom out would have made the building bit more conspicuous.

Thanks! The viewpoint is a little deceiving in this shot. I was actually standing pretty close to the tree and zoomed all the way out to 10mm (which should give you a sense of how HUGE the tree and castle are). There wasn't much room from reframing due to physical barriers behind me and a hedge to the left of me. In the original, uncropped version, I framed the sunrise into the shot, but in doing so, I actually chopped up the town's cathedral, so I cropped it out. Ah, if only we could get another nice sunrise like that, I could go back and re-shoot! :)

Story behind the shot is always makes it more exciting, at least to me. For 10mm there is no distortion, at least none that I can see! Pretty nice! What lens were you using?

This is from the Canon EFS 10-22mm shot on a tripod-mounted Rebel T4i (1/40th @ f/8). That lens is super nice for not being an 'L' lens.
