How to make virtual copies

Hi all,
I am using a private gallery to "backup" all the jpegs coming from my point and shoot camera. Then I need an unlisted gallery, to share with friends, that will contain virtual copies of my backup folder.
Roughly I get 100new shots every week and I want to clone 20-30 of those.

If I try the collect tool, I am just gonna simple "die" doing this piece by piece. If I try the smart filters then I might need to remember the date the shots were taken but this is also problematic as I also upload shots from other cameras, so dates overlap...

What are my alternatives for keeping in a gallery all my sources and then virtually cloning some of the shots there fast? I guess that a multiple selection of shots (i.e in organize mode that works, if you drag and drop shots between galleries, but the shots are moved and not copied).

I would like to thank you in advance for your reply

Regards
A.

I would keyword the photos that you want and then create smart galleries to pick up the keywords. Eg. you could add the keyword 'friends' to photos you want to get picked up by the friends smart gallery. Add 'colleagues' to photos that you want in a work smart gallery. You can use the bulk keyword tool on the source gallery to quickly add a keyword to a bunch of photos that you select.

    Does that do it?

You don't actually move them to a new gallery. A smart gallery is a gallery that is set to pick up photos that match a particular set of criteria - in this case a specific keyword. The smart gallery will then show those pictures without you having to move them - it's the virtual copy that you were looking for I think

(or did you actually want to make a copy of them in addition to being able to see them in the virtual gallery?)

FWIW, there are details of a neat bulk-collecting workaround at http://dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=1916654&postcount=33
It relies on the Legacy tool so there's no telling how long it will continue to function, but for now it works well and it's a useful time-saver.

I think you'll will have to load the unlisted galleries with photos. Nothing from "Private" galleries will show anywhere.

Smart galleries look like they will not use Private galleries. This is copied from Smart gallery setup.
    Include my unlisted/password protected galleries:

Why this ends to be so complex? I want to have a gallery to dumb their any single photos my camera stores and then a second gallery to show my work to friends.. I do not care if that would be a copy , a virtual copy, as long as the photo can be found in both galleries.

If I use bulk uploader to tag my shots, for example bulk uploading 1.000 shots, how in this world I would be able simply to select thirty of those and make them visible to the gallery for the public? Using collect tool would need to do the same procedure 30 times... Tagging each photo would also take time.... Am I missing something here? Would not a normal drag and drop do the work (drag and drop the files from the organizer to the gallery you want...)

Tagging each photo would also take time

Tagging doesn't take time if you use the bulk keyword tool in the gallery that you upload to. You just ctrl-click select all of the photos that you want to tag/keyword and then select add a keyword to all of those photos. It's really as simple as that. You then have a virtual/smart gallery that only shows photos with those keyword(s)

So, for example, that's how I've created the Holz-Hausen gallery here http://www.petermclarenfineart.com/Holz-Hausen. Any photos that have been taken that we want to also appear in that gallery that have the 'Holz Hausen' keyword added. They then turn up in that gallery automatically. We also use it in the 'ForSale' gallery - just tag the photo with 'ForSale'

Give it a shot and remember to use the bulk keywording tool in the gallery rather than selecting each photo and keywording it which would indeed be really slow
