Editing text

I added a text block to a folder page and it worked. Now I want to change the wording and I cannot figure out how to do it.

It looks like I could delete the block and retype everything plus the new bits but surely this is not the only way to edit text?

I hope someone can help.

    • Open the page.
    • Customize... customize site, just this page
    • Hover over the wrench icon on the text box.
    • Click the wrench to open the text editor.

And in case the cursor doesn't focus automatically on the text, try clicking once or twice on the first line in text editor to focus the cursor.

The text editor opens but the cursor does not focus. I can click "cancel" or "done" to exit the box, but no possibility to enter any new text.

Edit: I also tried to create a new text block on another page (page type). The block seems to create ok but no text can be entered. Very odd.

It might be worth trying in a different browser. I found when I created my new site that there were things I could do in only one of the three browsers that I use (Firefox, Chrome, and IE).

I also found that I was happier using HTML blocks instead of text blocks. I did see something about changes (improvements) to text blocks coming, don't know if those changes have been released yet.

    Thanks Denise.
I got my changes made using Chrome. Smugmug did not work with Safari (neither on Mac or Ipad) which obviously should be fixed.

I was hoping to avoid HTML.....

    Glad to hear.

I use very little HTML - but I am choosing HTML blocks for text instead of text blocks.

I am interested why you choose for HTML. I think html for text is not too difficult to learn - ''text'' and [link]. Probably it is not quite that simple.

Is there a simple guide? I was intending to put a lot of text onto smugmug and want to do the right thing before I get too deep in. Maybe it is just too early for Smugmug and text ....

I chose the HTML box because I was having problems with the text box. I couldn't get any of the formatting to work so I decided to use the HTML box instead.

    I use <b> and </b> for bold, <i> and </i> for italics, <a href="url here">text here</a> for links.

If the text element works for you then you should continue using it.

Thanks again for your help Denise. I just published a bit of text using html (Smugmug style) so I am feeling pleased as punch. It feels a lot more robust than the Text option so I might stick with it. Other handy codes I discovered are <h2> for a heading, <p> for a para, <br> for a hard return.

I'll go look see if Smugmug made a little manual on how they implemented this because it seems a bit different and by tomorrow I will have forgotten.... And tomorrow I was planning to take some photos.
