Bald Eagle having lunch.

Seeing a Bald Eagle in my neck of the woods is pretty rare. A few years ago it was unheard of, but in the last few years there's been one or two spotted as fall sets in. A buddy of mine spotted a couple eating on a dead deer so I went to check it out. I took a couple of days but I finally ran across this:

Eagle's lunch.

I was sitting in a ditch, in my Jeep, using my window for support. I shooting with my Canon 7D, Canon 300L F4 IS and my Canon EF 70-200L F2.8 IS w/2x extender. The extender on the 300 sucks, and is only fairly marginal (too me) on the 70-200. The photos above are 50% crops.

It's days like today that make me wish I had a 600L F4......it'll never happen.

I understand about wanting a 600F4; that's what 27k? Laughing.gif I'll have to work 2 years of wages to afford that one ;) The captures are good none the less.

Thanks. I'll probably opt for a 1.4 extender to use on the 300.

The 600 F/4 is "only" $12,999.00......but the $499.00 for the extender seems a little more doable. rolleyes1.gif

A few years back seeing a Bald Eagle in Rochelle was unheard of. The Rock River is about 20 miles away and you can usually find a few over there, in Oregon, once the river starts freezing up north. I grabbed this shot:

At the Oregon damn a few years back.

I need to get over to the lock and damn on the Mississippi this year.....there are usually hundreds of Bald Eagles over there in January. Maybe I should rent a long telephoto and make a weekend of it.
