What a terrific series! I've never seen such clear reflections in water, and the colors are spectacular, not to mention the striations in the rock. #3 and #4 have such a feeling of depth to them. #1 is beautiful, also. What can I say--I like them all! Best, Pam

Thanks, 'Taz. Those little white dots are huge flaming balls of plasma in space that can only be seen under the night sky. There's billions of them I'm told. mwink.gif Yes, those were shot at night under the light of the full moon.

So when are we going shooting? deal.gif

Really liking #5, Joel. Beautiful. The sky's reflection in the water is purple with that red rock underneath.

Thanks very much, Charles. I've tried Viviza, but am not particularly savvy with it yet. I currently do most of my color adjustments in LR/HSL.

All of these were in the Page, AZ area. First was in the desert near Lake Powell, and the second is on Lake Powell itself. The rest were from the Paria Plateau area of the Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness area. You've probably seen my tripmates photos in this forum by now. We've got a thread under "Journeys" too if you haven't seen it yet.

Thanks, man. Yeah that sky really popped when I started processing. If you got the same comp in #3, I haven't seen it yet.

Exceptional, Joel! Some of your best work, I think. #1 is my favorite, with such warm colors and the depth--makes it look like the sky goes on forever. #4 is my other favorite--I like the balance in the composition and the detail in the rock is terrific. Well done!

Like them all, but I tend to like the darker images and therefore number 1 stands out. Color me envious!

    Nice!

The light in the first is exquisite.

    The shots are all excellent.

If I may humbly offer a comment based on feedback Marc's been giving me, I would say that you could add to the depth of most of them by making the foreground a touch darker, and maybe lowering the clarity (if you're in LR), so that the eye is led to your subject. I think this would be especially helpful in 3 and 5. The lighting is flat across the image. This may sound odd for an image like 5, which pops right off the page. You wouldn't call it flat, but it has a uniformity across the image. In 3 I think the subject would be the pool of water and the formations behind. The lines in the rock are essential to the comp, but they are not the subject, and could be brought back in brightness, contrast and clarity so that the subject can stand out more and the image overall could have more depth.

I'd be interested to hear what you think, but the short story is: great work! thumb.gif

These are all awesome! But #1 is my favorite. That is just out of this world. And the cool thing is that you got that image before some yahoo boy scout leader goes and knocks the thing over. :D

Thanks, David. You know, I've been noticing some really good landscape photographers whose pictures appear to have been done up the way you describe. It's worth playing around with, so thanks for the ideas. thumb.gif
