Not a Rant but a Giggle
On Sunday I did something I never do (as a favor to a friend) -- I shot kids with Santa Claus. I don't do events and I definitely do not do "cute" kid shots but it was different so what the hell.
Anyway, we got there early, set up lighting, placed Santa in his chair, metered the combination of ambient and studio strobe, tested the exposures (on my still new to me 1D Mk 2) and in general got ready to go.
Giggle # 1 -- All the moms, grandpas, aunts and cousins shooting over my shoulder and destroying the carefully balanced light with their flashes. I made a polite request to wait till I was done and everything was fine.
Giggle # 2, the BIG one -- As I showed people the results on my iPad, all I heard was how great that camera is and what GREAT pictures it takes. :rofl:rofl Since we were in a restaurant, I suggested that they all visit the kitchen and see the GREAT stove on which the chef makes all that terrific food the place is noted for.
I found it amusing but I'm just a dumb hobbyist. Were I a pro, depending on this for a living, I might feel very differently.

I am also guilty of using the phrase as well. I have looked at the detail in a high MP med format digital camera and said something on the order of "wow what a great camera!"

An "accurate" reproduction of a scene and a good photograph are often two different things.
Gaby, feel free to use it liberally. I stole it from someone, somewhere but in a restaurant it seemed really apropos.
