Hello all, I'll be visiting Paris for 10 days at the end of the month, this will be my first time in France, I'll be traveling alone with my camera and couple of lenses, I know 10 days is kind of short, I hope to get some tips from you folks here for some great locations instead of flying blind. I guess I'll be just like all other tourist going to those popular destination, I like to do street shooting, cityscape and long exposure, any ideas will be greatly appreciated, thank you very much!

Of course you should go to all the famous places. The possibilities are endless. Have a view at the Eifel tower from the Trocadero terrace. Very interesting at night ! Go in the evening to the crowded Place de la Concorde (near Champs Elysees), but if you love city scapes: climb the Notre Dame. The view is extatic. It's a challenge though, cause you're only allowed about 20 minutes access up there.

Go to the modern quarter La Defense. Modern architecture. See :La Grande Arche. Interesting views at night.

    Have fun !

We were there for 2 days as part of a vacation. Here' a link to my gallery from the trip:

There's so much to see. It is a great walking city, but the public transportation is very good, too. Consider using the Botabus shuttle to visit sights along the river.

Based on your site you have a great eye. Paris is a treat for photographers. Obviously hit the main attractions (Eiffel Tower, Pompidou Center, Notre Dame, etc.). With your eye for architecture you will have a ball. The Louvre is full of angles and reflections day and night.

After that, hit the neighborhoods and soak up the the people. Parisians hang out a lot in cafes and parks and make for great street opportunities. Both of these are at The Jardins du Luxemburg.

Go to Sacre Coeur at the end of the day or early when local artists are not swamped with tourists.

Pick a spot along the Seine and let the people come to you. Be patient. At the time of year you are going the skies are grey most of the time but that's OK. The light can be wonderful when it appears.

A must: Pere Lachaise cemetery. Oscar Wilde is there, along with Jim Morrison and a host of other dignitaries. B&W opportunities galore. Here's Oscar with the plethora of kisses.

Ride the Metro. Walk the streets. I enjoyed taking one lens (35 or 50) on a day then wide angle another. If you have a small, unobtrusive and quiet camera use that for the street shots.

Most of all: Enjoy. And eat in the neighborhoods. The food it better and prices are almost affordable.

    Hope this helps.

My advice? Get lost! That is my favorite thing to do in many places is simply to wander. You'll have time to hit the usual suspects, but venture out into the back streets and see what you can find. I love Paris and you won't be disappointed!

10 days in Paris is great. Especially for the type of photography you like: "street shooting, cityscape and long exposure"

You can get everywhere with the "Metro" (Subway or underground)
If you want to get on top of the Eiffel tower, go early, go very early. Waiting time can go up to several hours. That's why I didn't get up there, but the view from above is spectacular.
A long walk along the Seine river is also very interesting. You pass by some very interesting locations: Louvre, Eiffel tower, Musee d'Orsay, Notre Dame, ...
Other interesting places: Centre Pompidou, Montmartre, Avenue des Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe, Basilique du Sacre-Coeur, ...

Oh, and in Paris you can also find the original statue of Liberty

Sounds like you will have plenty of time to explore on your own but thought I would send you this link to a photo tour in Paris. Saw this on Trip Advisor several years ago but knew it wasn't feasible during our quick stay enroute to the Ivory Coast. If nothing else, it may give you some more ideas of what's possible. Lots of great tips and photos in this thread already, I see.

    Enjoy your time there!
