Gallery Social "LIke"

I looked online in Smugmug help to try and understand what "Like" on/off does in Gallery/Social settings. Is this related to Facebook or does it tag the image so all "like"s in a gallery can be found? I know it is not a "favorite" as in Business account, which mine is not.

So what is it and what does it do?

It places a thumbs up icon on the photos in the gallery. It is one of the factors used in ranking photos on your site for your /popular page.

Thank you for putting the question and answer, but i'm not sure i understand it after all.

If the Like thumbs up is used for collecting popular photos, where are statistics kept and maintained?

John, there is no statistics, but you can see the photos that have been liked on your /popular page:

Wow!! So have all of the photos on that page been "liked" with a thumbs up on the individual photo by somebody? ....it wasn't me, because i never noticed the button!!
