Multiple photos content block- Popular photos

I just created a popular photos content block... but what does 'popular' mean? Popular by most views last month, most popular of all of my photos? Photos that got a "Like"?

What makes a photo being popular?

EDIT: Found this older thread... but still not sure what makes a photo "popular".

    POPULAR photos are photos that have been voted using the thumb up icon - please see my screenshot:

    Actually, the SM help page says it's a lot more complicated than that:
    PhotoRank
    You can increase a photo's popularity by moving your mouse over it and clicking the thumbs-up symbol that appears. You can cast one vote per photo.
    You can also rate a photo or gallery with stars when you leave a comment.
    There are other factors...like time. Photos from events past will usually be less popular than recent ones.
    Be aware that SM will always fully-populate your "Popular" photo content block to its limit. In other words, if you had only, say, 186 popular pics in your Legacy "Popular" gallery, and in New SM you set the limit to 500, New SM will display those 186 populars and supplement them with 314 pics of dubious and unproven "popularity". In short, New SM calculates popularity in a different way to how Legacy did it.

    Thanks for the replies... since the "Like" button seem to confuse my visitors (Like = facebook) i disabled that for now... which makes popular photos useless. So i removed the popular content block from my site.

    Thanks anyway... i really would like a "most viewed" option in multiple photos... i know many peoples that do not use a "Like" button...

    Yeah, I too found that it confused visitors, so I renamed the button (and somehow also conveniently lost its tooltip) and since then I've had no reports of confusion.
