domain mapping and CNAME records

hello super heroes.

just wondering how your domain mapping works.

my primary domain is mapped to smugmug and it works as expected. it's basically a CNAME record pointing to domains.smugmug.com.

I have other domains (various languages). I tried creating CNAME records for them pointing to my primary domain which in turn points to domains.smugmug.com but it doesn't work. would I be correct in surmising that your software is checking the {HTTP_HOST} variable?

i.e., I can't use CNAME records to point my secondary domains to my smugmug page?
I need to set up subdomains and redirect them (RewriteRule) to my primary domain?

I was trying to keep things simple; i.e., no subdomains, but...

cheers,
Gregory

For the secondary domains, the best thing to do is forward them using your domain hosts URL forward function if they offer it. Simply forward them to your primary domain. Just do not use forward masking as that will cause problems.

We only support the primary domain using the CNAME.

    forwarding? no. redirects? yes.

looks like I'll need to reinstate the subdomains to redirect them.

thank you for the incredibly quick response.

    cheers,
