File naming/Keyword assignment

Is there a forum where people discuss the niceties of file naming and keyword assignment in the context of websites and systems like Smugmug? I want to refine the system I've been using, which is giving me a lot of useless keywords (eg, half the date) and adding distracting drivel to those little yellow popups that appear when you hover over something. I want traceability back to the original raw file as well as version control.
Thanks!
af

do you know you can turn off the automatic creation of keywords from file names? Go to Account Settings... Discovery... Search. Set Filename Keywording as desired.

    HI 3PCo,

This is probably a good forum to discuss workflow and things of that nature: http://www.dgrin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29
It's a pro forum to help you with your bottom line. If you have specific questions about things directly related to your SmugMug account, or need help, please feel free to email us.

    I hope that helps!

Yeah, I remember turning that on. I thought it would be more useful than it's turned out. Do you know if, from an SEO perspective, it's unfavorable to have too many keywords, or gibberishy ones, or if only the first few are picked up?
    Thanks

Having keywords that aren't good won't help you. I would remove the poorly constructed keywords if I were you. Unfortunately I don't believe there is currently an easy way to select a keyword and then edit all of the photos with that keyword so you'll need to go through gallery by gallery.

The only way I've found to edit keywords now that they broke it is create a temp smart gallery using the keyword.
You can use multiple KW's then go the edit bulk.

Oh, good point... I need to remember this one.
I wish the bulk edit keywords from the keyword screen was still available.

So to complicate matters a bit, I'm organizing my site using a set of hidden source galleries, and collecting files into smart galleries for individual presentations. It's flexible and avoids uploading multiple copies of stuff. But in some cases I've created "nonsense" keywords to have unique identifiers. If this is detrimental to SEO, sounds like I have a problem.

I suspect you'll be OK. Why not make your nonsense keywords meaningful words?
(I thought you were asking about the keywords created from file names that weren't meant to be keywords...

I was, my previous response was raising a related issue. And your suggestion is a good one, I think I can work something flexible using combinations of keys.
    Thanks!
