An Interesting Discovery about Social Buttons

I redesigned my wedding photography page today. I made a whole new page, used a URL where I added a "2" to the end. When I was done I added a "1" to the original, and deleted the "2" from the new page. I'd placed social buttons on both pages.
When the new page still had the one, it had 0 likes & tweets. My original had 2 each. Once I made the new url match the old one, the new page now has 2 each and the old one has 0.
I know this isn't a big surprise to those in the know, but I had no idea it would work that way. I copied the metadate, and tags from the first to the second as well.
I wonder if the new page will now have the previous pages search rankings too??
