Visitor view - where is it?

In the legacy version of Smugmug, we had an option while logged in to see what our site looked like to a visitor.

Is there nothing similar in the New version except to log out and then log back in? (Which is a real P.I.T.A since Smugmug no longer remembers who we are and we must reenter our email address and password each and every time we log in.)

    Hey ghealy,

Sorry! We don't have a visitor's view in new SmugMug. What works really well for me, is to use two or more different browsers. I stay logged in to one, and view logged out in the other one.

I hope that method is helpful to you. Like you, I just hate logging in and out all day long.

Do appreciate you looking in and replying, Lindy. Thank you.

Unfortunately, I do not have two or more browsers, nor do I wish to have them. Couple this oversight with the screwed up log in where you have to manually type your e-mail and password each time you log in really shows how user-friendly this new Smugmug is. (NOT!)

It's trivial to download Chrome, or Firefox. They are free. And this will give you what you want, visitor view.

And if you use Firefox, there's a great 3rd party extension, Smugmanager, which will log you in almost automatically every time. One refresh is needed sometimes, but this makes logging in a breeze.

Install Firefox first. Having two browsers can come in so handy for many reasons.
Then inside Firefox, go to add-ons and search for SmugManager, and install it. It's on the Mozilla site as one of the add-ons you can install in FF.

Once it's installed, you register your account name and password. There are icons that you then click, for Homepage, Login, or Logout. There are other nice options for managing your site as well. I rarely use them in New mode however. I only care about the login helper part.

I know the feeling about not wanting to have to have more than one browser, but there are a couple of other reasons to have more than one. In addition to Smugmanager on Firefox, Chrome has one advantage, there's a new add-on for it that will allow you to backup your entire site. Built by one of the programmers/photographers/wizards who helps on this forum, Lamah, you can find the info and program here:
    http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=240752&highlight=back+site

Lastly, viewing your site in the 3 different browsers can be important because each one of them may show your site or pages slightly differently. This will tell you what your visitors, who will be using all of these as well as Safari, see. This let's you tweak settings or customizations to make sure all browsers work the way you want.

Again thanks, Chancy. Tried that Add-on - Smugmanager- for Firefox. Installed, restarted, added account and related inof. And nothing. It did log in nor once Imanually logged in, it didn't log me out. Since I'm basically done doing modifications to the site, I'll live with the screwed up login and having to log out and back in to see what my visitors see.

Really appreciate your help. Again, thanks.

    Gene,
What Andy refers to, is the private window (Firefox) and incognito window (Chrome) feature. Those allow you to open up a separate browser window that doesn't come with any cookies and easily allows you to view any site logged out.

Thanks for that clarification, Sebastian and Andy for the suggestion. That works perfectly.
