Help Portrait Detroit
Here's a few from our annual Help Portrait event. This year we worked at the Alternatives for Girls center in Detroit. We had around 40 volunteers doing hair, makeup, handling paperwork and guiding people through. 3 photographers photographed roughly 130-150 people (most as groups/families). It was a lot of fun. Only wish I hadn't forgot my spray bottle to get the wrinkles out of my backdrop! Oh well.

Do you have to have the studio space or pay for membership?

I really enjoy it. We have a lot of fun, network with other local photographers and give free portraits to people who really appreciate it and may not have other means to get them.
Every local group is different. We are using space at the Alternatives For Girls facility. No costs involved, it's free to join your local group and volunteer.

Locally there isn't a membership for my local camera club and it hosts events like this.
Usually they find a space like a church, community college, etc and ask members to bring lights, backdrops or whatever they can loan for the shoot.
