Saving from the web

Hi, all. I'm a new SmugMug user and very happy so far with everything. Great product, reasonably priced. I've been exploring various tools for uploading photos to my account and I have a very basic question that I hope someone can help with.

For my work and for personal projects, I like to idea of clipping photos from various archives around the web and my intranet into folders and galleries that I can turn to later as my research continues. The trouble is that none of the uploading options I've seen so far will let me just drag in a file from another web page for uploading. Instead I have to drag the image to my local operating system (say, my desktop), name it, and only then upload it. The extra steps of the workflow seem unnecessary to me.

I can program, so I can certainly imagine writing a tool to save a dragged image under a temporary file name, then upload it and delete it from my hard drive, but before I go down that path I was hoping I'd find something already to do.

Appreciate your advice!

    Hi RDR,
This isn't possible. You'd need to download or Save As, the image as a jpg, then upload the jpg to your SmugMug account. You can use a drag & drop uploader to do this. But there is no way to drag and drop an image from another site, into the uploader or into a gallery. You've nailed the sequence of events in your post. As script would need to be written to do this automatically. I checked our Hacks and Apps help page. But I am not seeing anything like this offered.

    Have a wonderful evening Robert

Thanks for the quick reply, Steve. I guess it's up to me to figure it out, then. Perhaps others will be interested when I do.

    Thanks again.
