Trying to get a 3D effect on some sports images......does it look real?

It certainly jumped out at me! I would just clean up the edges of the club head. Right now it's got magnetic lasso written all over it.

In the second, needs to extend out the bottom as well, for symmetry.

I'm a bit of a fan of "Out Of Bounds" portraits that give a 3-D effect. I like the golf club idea.

Maybe this link will give you some ideas?

Some are very well done, some aren't.

If I did that wouldn't she look pasted on top of? Just thinking out loud. Keep the comments coming, appreciated you looking.

Much better! And the crop is better too. Very cool shot.

I'd like to see it and compare. Right now it sort of looks like she is falling out of the frame.

I think the 3d effect looks better on a printed page like in a photobook or newspaper. For an actual print, I think it would look better to have the faux matte look like an actual matte and not have whatever the thick squiggly black border is. Have a faux matte with drop down shadow that gives it dimension and then pop out from that.

....this isn't anything you could use professionally...but looks like fun to mess around with......no doesn't look realistic.....long way to go technically to make these look good.

Nonsense, you could do these for youth sports and parents would eat them up.

Well I guess that may be true since photographs being technically well done is not necessarily a requirement for parents eating them up.

OK everyone take it easy. I do know a photographer who is technically a nut job who sells these to his senior clients and last year sold $12,000 worth of 10x20's framed. He also uses them for seniors who are interested in med, music and all types of various sports. A good portrait is jjust that, a good portrait. If you would like to jazz it up abit that is OK. I'll work to show you some better examples as these are a first try.

My point is that at this level of techical mastery this is not a product that should be sold by a professional of Hackbones level.
Not that this type of product is not marketable. I have friends who sell this type of product like hot cakes...the work they turn out is techically perfect...I marvel at their craftmanship.

Would people buy it at this level...sure they will...we all see seemingly intellingent people out there in the world paying hack photographers for hack work.....dragging down the whole industry.

Hackbone being a professional of some standards will put in the time and study to perfect this type of product before he would market it. So he comes on here to find out how it looks.
Telling him it looks great when it does not...does him no service.

Personally, I think it all boils down to the levels of expectation contained within different photography applications.

I would show and sell this type of product all day when covering a live sporting event. Never in a million years would I show it to a "senior portrait" client. There is just a different level of expectation. That's why an average senior client spends more than 20 times as much as the average sporting event client.

Charles, here is a OOB thing I did from a cheer compitition. Presented only to maybe give you more ideas as you develop the concept for your application. Again, this sells for sports, but I think it would need to be a WHOLE bunch better to show to normal portrait clients.
