Doing a combo headshot (for dad) and family session next week. Two parents, 13yo boy and 2 yo girl. Predicted weather is "meh" - 50* and grey. Looking for some fun ideas to do with them that WON'T turn it into something that turns up on Awkward Family Photos....

(PS Yes, the headshot session is being done first and separately - I'm not THAT crazy!! :rofl)

Make sure they all wear matching denim outfits?

    Just kidding.

Is there anything they enjoy doing together as a family? Maybe work the session around that activity/event?

How about white pants and jean jackets? :D

An "accurate" reproduction of a scene and a good photograph are often two different things.

I told them that they simply HAVE to avoid the anatomically-correct ape suits rolleyes1.gif

Ok, now that we've got that out of our systems - some real suggestions? Please??? Pretty please???????????????? :D

Sorry, yes you did - I just decided to join in the smartass-fest :D sawwwwwyyyy....

That won't work in the timeframe and in this situation unfortunately - we're planning for their backyard and a park. I guess I'm really looking for suggestions for getting them to interact in fun ways. The age spread on the kids makes it a little more challenging. I'll definitely try to get the two kids doing stuff together, and am just hoping that the toddler won't be in a "You're not the boss of me" mood! Oy. The things I do for friends................ rolleyes1.gif

You gotta do a picnic. You have no choice in this matter. Stuff the two year old in the picnic basket.

    You're welcome.

    Oh. Muh. Guh.

I'm not sure whether to bow down and worship your genius, or just book myself a spot in the Awkward Family Photo Album now, ahead of time.

    :lol4

PS I think the picnic basket look requires all denim. And a check tablecloth. thumb.gif

Haha..I mean this could end up being really awkward. But if you do it right, you'll be able to get everyone interacting as a family. It would totally make for "non-boring" family photos.

Also, like Alex mentioned, a good question to ask the client is, "What are some fun events you like to do as a family?" It will ultimately help you decide what to do with em.

I've had those. It's best to let the toddler run around and then capture family interaction. The formal pics can make one swear off 2 yr olds forever.

That was exactly MY goal. However, the weather and toddler had completely other plans...... rolleyes1.gif As far as she was concerned "interaction" with anything was OFF the agenda for the day.................
