Mud Child - I was struck by how much this young girl resembled the mud that she toiled in.

You're right about that as far as color and detail are concerned but I'm not sure that's a good thing, as it makes the whole image a little flat. It seems distant, dunno. If you had been closer and shot with a wider aperture you might have gotten better isolation.

Richard, I wish I could have gotten closer. We were traveling along the waterway out to Tonle Sap lake at the time by boat. When I saw her I was really struck by the way she blended in to the background and by the fact that her face was totally void of expression. Unfortunately a do-over or closer shot was not in the cards. I really do appreciate your observation though. Thanks.

Well if you want to put work into the shot PP the background with blur. You wouldn't get color differential but texture differential could give you better separation

It's a good shot and from the distance you shot - camera bokeh is near impossible

I'd do it if it were mine

Well, the selection was not the easiest since there is not much contrast between the girl and the background but this is an attempt at blurring the background to create some sense of depth as torag suggested. Let me know what you think. I am particularly concerned about the lower portion of the image since the foreground needs to stay in focus with the girl. How well this transition was accomplished is up for debate I suppose.
