I like this one except for the clipped hand which bothers me. Do you have a reflector beneath her? I wonder if this would look a bit better if you had the BD at 2:00 instead of what looks like 12:30.

Her arms are resting on a piece of white foam core which is reflect light upwards.

The hand doesn't really bother me. I took a shot with both hands in the frame but I kind of like the off-center composition I used in this one better. Two o'clock would have casted more shadow on the left side of her face which I didn't want for this photo; this was a clamshell setup. Also, that would have casted more light on the back of her right hand.

Funny how we can reverse engineer by using the catchlights. I knew you had a reflector under her arms, but to my eye, there just isn't enough fill. The shadow on her neck is just a bit too dark.

I wonder if it's because of the more focused light you get with a beauty dish? With less stray light, you will get less fill with your reflector.

You're right about the directional light not causing as much bounce. But also keep in mind that her arms are working as a flag to block the reflected light from hitting her chest/neck. Beyond that, the intensity of the bounced light is much lower than that of the light coming from the beauty dish. So the extreme ratio makes the bounced light look dim.

To lessen light on the chest you could tip the dish up slightly and still get the effect. Do love your colors especially.
