Any suggestions for converting Legacy site?

I'm still running my site in the Legacy Smugmug (www.Matthew.Pro) but would like to switch over to the new Smugmug. I'm concerned that I won't be able to recreate my favorite aspect of my site in the new Smugmug though. I use some code from here: http://isotope.metafizzy.co/docs/introduction.html to make a gallery that is sortable via the buttons at the top of the gallery. This allows for a single gallery that different users can filter to just what they're looking for (wedding images, portraits, etc). I really like this ability and don't want a new site without it (and would be sad to have to leave Smugmug over it). The main issue is that it uses JQuery and Javascript and from what I've read the new Smugmug doesn't allow this at all. My coding skill is fairly low and I employed a professional to implement the code before.

Is anyone aware of a workaround to get this to work... or is there an alternative gallery I can use that does the exact same thing?

Thanks!
Matthew

You are correct that the new smug does not support javascript anylonger.

Do you have tagged your photos with "wedding" or "portraits" ? If so you could create smart galleries that will collect photos from that gallery including a specific keyword and create a menu that allws to switch between the main gallery and the smart galleries.

In your example above "Show all" would link to the main gallery, "Portrait" would open a smart gallery only showing pics from the main gallery with keyword "portrait". Same for "Wedding" and "Visions". The links itself can be done by a navigation menu content block.

I have a similar setup for this gallery here. It shows fireworks from three different nations, all in one single main gallery. On top of the gallery i do have a small menu bar where you can select only to show fireworks from a specific nation. In my example the smart galleries will open as a slideshow, but the gallery style can be the same as the main gallery or any other style smugmug offeres... I made the smart galleries "unlisted" so they will not appear if someone is browsing through my galleries.

The only thing that can not be done would be the "sorting" effect that you current have when selecting on of the sort buttons.

If you have multiple galleries then this would be a lot of work, especially if you want to have that navigation menu bar on top of each gallery. You cannot copy elements between different galleries, that means you have to create the navigation menu multiple times.

Just an idea... maybe some one else has a better one.

Thanks for the reply, I don't think it's going to work closely enough to what I want.

I was really hoping somebody would have a suggestion. I hate to leave Smugmug after so many years.

It seems that the difference between your current site (minus the animations, that is) and the suggestion from the poster above is that he has the secondary galleries set to open as a slideshow. There is no reason that you can't have 4 galleries to mimic your current setup, all set to the same style. You would have the base gallery containing all of the photos, then 3 smart galleries pulling from keywords or by direct selection (it's your choice how to set up those galleries). You can then place a description in all of the galleries with links to the 4 options.

This doesn't mimic the animations but it does allow you to have the content you are after.
In my view the animations don't add anything to your site.

Obviously it's your choice. You can use the capabilities of the new smug or you can look for a new photo host that better meets your needs.

Nice idea... thanks for that. I will use that for my setup since that is a simple copy&paste of some html-code between my smart galleries. Much easier then to create a navigation menu bar.

I updated that gallery and the three smart galleries... maybe the TO want to have a look again here. All photos are in one gallery. The links will just open a smart gallery configured to show photos with a specific tag. "ALL NATIONS" will always open the main gallery. In your example that would a main gallery with all photos, and smart galleries for Portraits, Weddings and Visions. All you need is keywords...

I think Denise is correct, it is pretty close to what you have right now. Except it would be some work if you have multiple main galleries where you want to have that feature.

I just went to your site - clicking any of the links other than ALL NATIONS brings up your 404 page. Are you using keyword galleries? Are the gallery links on that page correct?

I just figured that out myself... you have to use the URLs with the ID-code like
    <a href="/Events/FS2013-Italy/n-cQD6D/">ITALY</a>

if the page is unlisted. Should work now:cry

Works now - and looks good - thanks!

Thanks for the feedback... sometimes it helps to test your own page inside of a private session in firefox (CTRL+SHIFT+P). This would show you the site like others will see it. I should do that more often :)

Thanks for all the responses. I guess I should have been more clear in my last response.

The suggested setup does functionally do the same thing as using Isotope, but I don't want a new page to load every time a link is clicked. It just isn't the look that I want for my site, and to me it doesn't feel as professional- I could of set up a system of galleries like that on my Expage 20 years ago. One of my goals with a new site is to have, for example, a gallery from a wedding of a client and let them sort through them based on "getting ready" photos, ceremony photos, or whatever. I don't want them to have to juggle multiple galleries with multiple links.

Do you think it would be possible to host a second website elsewhere with the layout and code that I really want but pull the hosted images and the store interface from Smugmug? I would have to include all of the "buy" and "download" buttons from SMugmug into the lightbox of the Isotope on the second site.

Thanks again for your time and efforts,
    Matthew
