Search Problem

I have setup a gallery of Moon photos which is a collection of duplicate images that are also in other galleries that have the moon. I have set the Web Searchable and SmugMug Searchable to "No"; however, the Search results still provide images from the Moon gallery. As a result there are duplicate photos in the Search results. How do I prevent the duplicates?
Thanks,
Charles

    Hi Charles,

Are the images collected photos or are you using Smart Gallery rules to bring them into the 2nd gallery? Or did you upload the images twice to the different galleries? Can you send us links so we can see what's going on?

Ah, I didn't know there were so many options. I uploaded the images twice to different galleries. I don't understand what "collected photos" or "Smart Gallery rules" mean. I am hoping that will be a better way to do this.

    Hi Charles,

Can you include what exactly you search for and also include a link to a specific example photo that comes up in search that you're seeing the issue with? What is the intended result you'd like to see?
Do you search logged out or logged in as the owner?

Try searching for "Moon" from the Menu. You will see up to three copies of any individual moon photo. What I want is just one instance of each photo to show up in the search results. Below I describe why I have three galleries with the same image uploaded three times in those galleries. But for two of the galleries, I have set the Searchable setting to No - I expected that would make it so that the Search would not crawl into those galleries.

    1. In my general galleries like arrowphotos.com/Colorado/Boulder I have multiple moon images spread throughout those galleries. http://arrowphotos.smugmug.com/organize/Colorado/Boulder These are the images that I want in the search results. For example http://arrowphotos.smugmug.com/Colorado/Boulder/i-MvGgz9d

    2. I have a secondary Boulder gallery with a link that looks like arrowphotos.com/Boulder without the Colorado hierarchy (to enable those who have a link from my old website to get into my new website without error). I did this because I was told by SmugMug that they don't support a Redirect for this condition. Even though I have said No to Searches in this gallery, the images still come up in the search. http://arrowphotos.smugmug.com/organize/Boulder These images I do NOT want in my search results, for example http://arrowphotos.smugmug.com/Boulder/i-2cZvNjJ

    3. I have a Moon gallery as an Extra gallery for those who want to quickly access all my moon shots. I have uploaded duplicate moon images into that gallery. I have set Searches to No. http://arrowphotos.smugmug.com/organize/Extra/Moon These images I do NOT want in my search results, for example http://arrowphotos.smugmug.com/Extra/Moon

So, at this point I have two questions:
    1. Should the "No" setting in the Web Search and SmugMug search (see original screen capture at the beginning of this thread) work so that No results will be posted for search results in the Boulder and Moon galleries? Is there a bug here?

    2. Is there a better way of doing this? Maybe using Smart Gallery? If so, please provide me with a link that describes how to do it.

    Thanks!

When did you set the gallery settings to no for the search settings? Search indexing can take a while to process after you've made a change. Usually it's done within 24 hours. So if you made the change only recently, you may have to wait longer.

A smart gallery or collected photos won't work for your intended purpose as right now there's no way to independently control the search settings for such photos.

    1. I added the Boulder gallery a week ago and the moon gallery three days ago.
    2. In a smart gallery, doesn't it just point on the image from another gallery and therefore the search should just return the original?
    3. I tried changing the Boulder gallery (without the Colorado hierarchy) to a smart gallery. I am hoping that will work better. I guess I have to wait for the search results to settle.
    4. Should the Searchable set to "No" prevent that gallery from being included in the search results?

    Pretty Much Solved...
I have found that using the Collection method (which provides a link to another image on my site) works for my purposes.

Still I can't get the Searchable = No to work, but since I can use the Collection method and not get duplicate search results, I am now going to move on to the next challenge.
