In geology a hoodoo is a tall thin spire, chimney or other outcropping. Some call them "fairy chimneys".

Bryce Canyon, in Utah, is an area with literally thousands in all shapes and sizes.. They are predominately red sandstone but can change colors and hues depending on how the sun hits them and the time of the year.
