Dear all,
I have four questions about composition to ask you. I would like to ask you to share your thoughts on some shots, it would be nice if you can include also the reasoning. (All shots are the jpegs created from the body directly, no pp)
1) A or B? (pick one)
2) your selection at 1 vs C. (pick one)
3) D or E (pick one)
4) A or B or C or D or E (pick one)
5) your favorite pizza flavor.
I would like to thank you in advance for your replies
A.
B. (difference in lighting compared to A)
C.
D.
E.

1) Between 'A' and 'B' - I pick 'A' - subject is neither interesting to me, nor pretty, so less I see, more is left to imagination and that means 'A'. The possibilities make me like it more.
2) Between 'A' and 'C' - 'C' is better photo. Even though top is abruptly chopped off, and there are leading lines in it, even if they too are abruptly chopped off. The shadow of the poles also act like leading lines....and again since main subject is at a distance, and there is darker portion on the right, making it somewhat mysterious, less is more here. Because of distance picture appears bit more crisp as well. There is less of red glare near the main light and its star is more crisp and the top light is bit hidden, allowing the main light-star to draw the eyes. The pattern on the ground is more prominent, making it bit prettier, and the stairs are perfectly lit, leading us to unknown. Stairs are much better focal point for the picture than the circus tent or whatever that structure is. Furthermore 'A' and 'B' have shadow creeping into the frame in bottom making it sloppy.
3) D or E - I pick 'E' with same reasoning as between 'A' and 'B'
4) A or B or C or D or E (pick one) - I pick 'C'
5) your favorite pizza flavor - ground beef
capturing and subsequently evaluating and discriminating between these images.
I would comment though, that you might consider keeping a greater distinction between
the elements of composition (content, position, and arrangement of subject(s)... foreground, background, etc...)
and lighting - IMO, from a compositional point-of-view, there is no difference between A and B.
Pizza!! Did someone say Pizza??? You buying?? Anything but anchovies please!!
Cheers!!
