A smattering of Holiday portraits
With the wedding season all but dead, and Hotels regalled in their Christmas Finery, I've found myself VERY slow lately. Well have lights will travel, time for portraits. Here are a few of my favorites.
I know the hand poses are a bit cheesy BUT I have found that people LIKE them. I managed a retail portrait studio for 2 years, and when nothing else would sell someone on more than the basic package, a cute hand pose would. Either way I'm no longer concerned with selling packages, right now I work for a flat rate and deliver a CD with permission to print, and option to order from smugmug of course. Eventually I'd like to hire someone just to sell pictures, and schedule appointments, the former I detest, the latter I'm just lazy on. Comments and critique are always welcome.

This one is my favorite of the series. There are some nice shots here! What lighting equipment do you use?

2 Alien Bee 800's, lightware "large" soft box, Wescott Halo (brolly box), Quantum Radio Slaves. The wescott is my preferred light modifier, but it has a tear in it, so it is a bit tricky sometimes. The lightware is a beast to put together, and when used close-up leaves a really funky sqaure or diamond shaped catch light, like with the tummy posed baby with the pink dog. I personally do not advocate one type of box over any other, but I will say the Wescott is a really nice box, if not the absolute most durable. I really want to play with the big white dishes Paul C. Buff sells, I would imagine they are not quite as soft, as a box, but more directional and less prone to spill into the background.
