    You can set the maximum viewable size of photos in a gallery, in the gallery settings, under the Security & Privacy tab.

    Looks like your Investment gallery is using the journal style. Smugmug sizes the photo to fit the screen
    and you have to click to lightbox for a larger one. If you want a larger photo to appear by default you
    would have to add an html box with the size you want to show. Then hide the gallery photos.

    Click "Make this gallery custom" so you can customize this gallery without affecting all others of this type.

    Go to share > get a link and copy the size photo you want.

    Add an html block at top just above the gallery photo block.
    Add this to it

    <img src="image link" />

    You might put the two photos in this so both show.

    If you are not going to have actual photos in the gallery (as it currently)I would use a Page for this instead of a gallery. Create a new page, follow the instructions from above. Drop the HTML block on there, put in the images, etc. Then you wont have the upload button or Gallery is Empty

    The gallery photos can be hidden with CSS. When using special photo links in HTML on a page it's nice if they are in
    the same gallery so you know where you got them from. They need to be uploaded somewhere, perhaps
    in an unlisted gallery. Just be sure that in the photo caption reference where you used them.
